What is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise developed in the 1920's by Joseph Pilates. Pilates emphasizes the balanced development of the body by developing core strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness. Doing Pilates will teach your body to move the way that it is designed to move—efficiently, with precision and grace.

Why did you do an audio product instead of a video?
There are three reasons why I choose to offer an audio product.

First, and most important, is that doing an audio workout helps you get the maximum benefit from the exercises because your spine stays properly aligned while you work. As soon as you have to turn or move your head to watch what's on the television, your neck and spine move improperly and your spinal alignment is compromised which means that you are strengthening your body in a misaligned position.

Second, Pilates requires focus. When you listen to my voice on your MP3 player, all outside noises and distractions are gone and you can focus on the instructions and what your body is meant to do.

Finally, an audio product is mobile—do these workouts when you travel in your hotel room, on the dock at the cottage, at the gym or wherever you prefer to work out. Take my voice with you on your MP3 player wherever you go and work out when it fits your schedule!

What do I get when I purchase your MP3 workouts?
First, is the audio MP3 workout that includes exercises specific to your need or sport. Second, you'll get an illustrated document (.pdf format) that shows each of the exercises in the workout in the order in which they are taught. Finally, you will receive a FREE Ab Tutorial that teaches you how to find and strengthen the deep abdominal muscles that are so important in Pilates.

As a Personalizing Pilates customer, you are welcome to call or e-mail me anytime if you have a question or if you need help. I will get back to you within one business day!

I'm a visual learner. How can I do this workout if I cannot see it?
I understand—I like to see when I'm learning too! When you purchase my workout, you will receive an illustrated document (.pdf format) that shows the exercises in the workout in the order in which you will do them. I show the starting position as well as the different parts of the exercise and I've included the audio cues that you will hear. So take a look at the exercises before you begin so you know what to expect. Once you've done the workout a couple of times, you'll be comfortable with the exercises and you can shift your focus to really feeling the movement in your body.

Remember, if you need help or have a question, you can call or e-mail me anytime and I'll get back to you within one business day.

What happens when I order the workout?
When you order the workout, your credit card information will be processed and the purchase will be pre-approved by your bank. Your order information will be sent to me. I do not receive your credit card information so it remains private. Within one business day, you will be receiving a welcome e-mail with everything that you need to know including a link and password to download the workout(s) you have purchased. Your purchase is billed to your credit card once the welcome e-mail has been sent to you, not before.

What if I have a question about an exercise?
The best suggestion that I can offer is to e-mail your question to me at Sherry@PersonalizingPilates.com. Please be as specific as you can so that I have enough information to send you back a complete answer. I'll get back to you within one business day.

What is your refund policy?
It's simple. If you don't feel better after doing the workout, call or e-mail me and let me know. I'll issue a credit to your card for the full amount of the purchase. No one has ever requested a refund on my workouts after having tried them!

What are your credentials?
I am a PMA Certified Pilates Teacher and I trained at the PhysicalMind Institute, which is based in New York. I've been teaching Pilates for over ten years and I have been teaching fitness since 1982. I'm certified to teach mat-based Pilates, Standing Pilates as well as the equipment-based Pilates exercises on the Reformer, Cadillac and Wunda Chair. I have also completed numerous additional courses including pre/post-natal Pilates, Gait analysis, Pilates for osteoporosis and Pilates for Golfers.

I teach private Pilates sessions for my clients at my fully equipped studio in Toronto where I have gained a lot of experience working with a wide range of clients including pregnant women, new moms, motor vehicle accident clients, rehab clients as well as the general population.

Why does my neck hurt when I do ab curls?
Because we tend to sit (and slouch!) so much in our daily lives, we develop tight muscles in our necks. These muscles get overly shortened and can cause discomfort when we are exercising.

If your neck hurts you, try these modifications. First, let your head rest heavy in your hands and let your arms support your head so that your neck muscles can relax. Look towards your knees instead of looking at the sky. Try smiling! When we smile, our tense neck muscles and jaws relax! If these suggestions don't help, simply take a short break and rest.

How often can I do these workouts?
I'd suggest doing these workouts three or four times a week if possible. If you cannot fit a workout into your schedule, just do one of two of the exercises from the workout once you've learned them. Even a little bit each day will help you!

How can I tell if it's working?
The first thing that will happen is that you will feel different. You might feel taller, or stronger or you may notice that your tummy muscles feel tighter. After a few weeks, you will start to see the differences. If you're a golfer, you'll see that the ball goes farther. If you're a runner, you might get up that hill with less effort. If you sit at a computer all day, you'll notice that you sit up straight with less effort.

A good way to see the differences for yourself is to have someone take a photo of you now and again in about twelve weeks. You'll see the differences for yourself (did you see the before and after photos page?).

What is neutral pelvis?
Neutral pelvis is the position in which our spines are designed to be the strongest. In a neutral pelvis position, the spine will have curves in it when viewed from the side. There will be an inward curve in the neck and in the lower back and the ribs will have an outward curve. The curves of the spine are there to help dissipate the forces of walking, sitting and standing. If we lose these curves, the spine and associated muscles become weaker and we start to feel uncomfortable.

In the Ab tutorial that you will receive free with any workout, I will teach you how to find the neutral pelvis position and how to use your core abdominal and back muscles to strengthen your spine and hold it's natural curves.

What equipment do I need?
I've designed these workouts so that you don't need to buy any special equipment. When you purchase a workout, I'll send you a welcome e-mail that tells you everything you need to know including the equipment that is required. You will need a mat to lie down on, but if you don't have one, a carpeted area will do just fine. Some workouts use a resistance band and you can substitute a scarf or dishtowel if you don't have a band. There's no extra expense required.

Will you ever sell or rent my name and personal information?
Absolutely NOT.

What if I don't have an MP3 player?
You can listen to these MP3 workouts on your computer or copy them to a CD and play the CD. I also have a limited supply of some of the workouts on CD—see the CD sale page.

What if I my computer isn't fast enough to download a large MP3 file?
No problem. Call or e-mail me and let me know which workout you want. I will copy the files onto a CD and snail-mail them to you. There will be a minor additional charge to cover the CD and mailing costs.
